Bembien

Designer Yi-Mei Truxes took inspiration from a single moment. She caught a glimpse of a woman in a white linen dress crossing a New York street. From her shoulder swung a perfect woven basket bag. That effortless look - like something from coastal France in the 70s - transfixed her and inspired her to try to create a line of bags evoking that same nostalgia and perennial style.

It had to be done right. Only when she discovered a small village of artisan weavers in Bali was Bembien born. Support for these precious weaving communities remains at the forefront of their work, with ten percent of Bembien proceeds going back into these communities, in partnership with the Nest nonprofit.

Bembien continue to seek out new craftspeople and have extended their range to include scarves, gloves and accessories that come from talented small producers.
