Daffodil is the second in a new series of cards from Scribble & Daub which illustrate the symbolism and sentiment behind particular flowers. Adorned with a floriferous scribble on the front, the meaning is elegantly and concisely explained on the reverse.

Thought to originate from the Old English word ‘affodyle’ meaning ‘that which comes early’, Daffodils are the birth flower of March, and are traditionally given on a 10th wedding anniversary. Its botanical name Narcissus derives from the Greek ‘narke’, meaning numbness or torpor, pertaining to its narcotic properties. Symbolising rebirth and new beginnings, Daffodils herald the arrival of Spring. The national symbol of Wales, in China, daffodils represent good fortune and prosperity, whilst in Japan, they express joy and mirth. In France, they are symbols of hope, and in the Middle East, they were believed to be aphrodisiacs.

All Scribble & Daub cards are traditionally letterpress-printed from original dip pen and ink drawings and then individually hand-painted with Andy Warhol's favourite inks on luxurious Italian deckle-edged cards with matching envelopes.
